(If you are unable to attend the surgery for these checks because of your medical condition, a home visit may be arranged.)
Hypertension/Cardiovascular Clinic
High blood pressure is a condition
which if untreated can lead to damage of the eyes and kidneys and increase the
incidence of heart disease. If you suffer from raised blood pressure, the doctor
may ask you to attend the practice nurse for advice and monitoring of the problem.
Asthma Clinic
Asthma affects at least two people
in fifty. By understanding the condition and how to treat it, you can help yourself
and your doctor keep your asthma under control. The aims of this clinic are to:
- Educate patients about their asthma.
- Monitor them and where possible improve their control and therefore their lifestyles.
Clinics are run on Thursdays, once
a fortnight, by a doctor and a practice nurse.
Diabetic Clinic
These are on Thursday afternoons
fortnightly and are run by a doctor with the
help of the practice nurse and dietician. Most of our diabetic patients are
now looked after at these clinics, although some with particular problems will
still go to hospital.
Well Person Clinic
The practice nurses offer a health
'MOT' with particular emphasis on helping you avoid heart disease, which is especially
common in the Rochdale area. The clinics are for those aged between 20 and 75
and you can attend every three years. Please bring a urine specimen and the nurse
will also check your height, weight and blood pressure. If you are at a particular
risk of having heart problems, she will take a blood test for cholesterol. She
will also give advice on diet, exercise and stopping smoking. These clinics are
by appointment only.
Dietician
Your doctor can refer you to our
dietician who is with us fortnightly at our diabetic clinic.
